Graduation Day, although not factual or even based on factual event, was inspired by the
death of St. Olaf graduate Katharine Olson. I was in the middle of production on another
film as well as assist and directing a play when the first notions began to roll around in my head.
The first pages of the script were scribbled in a notebook during rehearsal for the play 'Life is
a Dream' and I showed the first draft to my friend Joel the same day I gave him all the tapes of
raw footage from Singularity. In the end, it may be my favorite film I made. The simplicity in
setting meant that it looks very good visually and the narrative structure (which is noticeably
similar to 'Memento') makes me very happy.
Although I didn't manage to screen it in any
festivals, the film can be found on IMDB.com and the DVD is available through Amazon.
